COOL NEW PENGUIN
Gold Coast's Sea World has launched a ''cool'' new animal
adventure program -- Penguin Antarctic Adventure. The
new program allows guests to don special snow gear and
head out onto the ice with the King and Gentoo penguins
in the Penguin Encounter exhibit.
Sea World assistant director of marine sciences, Mark
Craig, says the penguins are amazing fun to watch and
getting out on the ice with them is a unique experience.
"Guests will experience a back-of-house tour of the
exhibit before joining the playful and inquisitive penguins
in their sub-zero home," says Craig.
The $12 million Penguin Encounter exhibit is a slice of
Antarctica at Sea World that is home to 24 penguins and
features icy rock formations and a pool for the penguins
to explore.King and Gentoo penguins are

KEEPING TRACK OF VALUE
Surprisingly, Brisbane has turned out to be the most expensive of
Australia's major capital cities, in front of Melbourne and Sydney,
as a domestic destination for holidaymakers.
Online travel company Expedia.com.au last month released the
domestic version of its Travel Value Tracker, which looks at 10
typical, everday holiday items, including cups of coffee and beer,
and how much they cost around the country.
Expedia says the surveys help travellers make informed
decisions about costs and surveyed Adelaide, Perth, Sydney,
Melbourne and Brisbane, arriving at their prices using an average
charged by three, four and five-star hotels in each city.
The 10 items on the list were coffee, beer, internet (30
minutes), hamburger and chips, cost of a local call, laundering
jeans, a bottle of water, a can of Coke,
a taxi from the airport to hotel and a

Although Melbourne is the
second-most expensive city
it has the cheapest prices for
a coffee, schooner of beer,

airport-to-hotel taxi comes in
at $53.35, one of the highest
in the world.
All the capital cities are among the most
expensive in the world for having jeans laundered,
with Sydney taking the national most-expensive
The cost of a local call is cheapest in Perth (75 cents), and a
bottle of water is cheapest in Sydney ($3.35).
Expedia released its inaugural international Travel Value Tracker
in April, which priced the same 10 items (cost of a local phone
call was replaced by a five-minute call home to Australia) in 10
of the most popular international destinations for Australians.
Among the destinations of Bali, Phuket, Fiji, Las Vegas,
Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, Rome, Paris and London, the
basket of items cost least in Bali ($82.05), Thailand ($99.40) and
The most expensive cities are London ($228.50), Paris
($188.55) and Rome ($144.50).
Las Vegas, Fiji, New York and Bali are among the cheapest
places for a coffee or beer, with a coffee in Bali costing just
$1.50, while at the other end of the scale it is $7.90 in Paris.
