WHY: ''His role in turning
Centennial Coal into Australia's
largest independent 'pure' listed
coal company, which makes
it a pivotal player in NSW
infrastructure space. He also
finds time to carry out the

WHY: ''For his ongoing passion and determination in
delivering inspirational dining experiences for the people
of Newcastle. While he has been unsuccessful in recent
endeavours at Nobbys (as they have become commercially
unviable due to government interference) no doubt
he'll be embarking on his next 'big idea' for dining in
Newcastle soon. Our tourism future depends on it!''
9. DR. BRENT JENKINS
WHY: ''He is the CEO of Newcastle Innovation, the
not-for-profit commercial arm of Newcastle University
charged with creating innovative solutions in research
and IP on behalf of the university's researchers and the

position being advertised that she was going to move to
Newcastle and secure this role after visiting friends in
North Arm Cove, where she now lives, and seeing what
Newcastle had to offer as a city on the move.''

12. JULIE AINSWORTH
WHY: ''She is the general manager of Newcastle
Newspapers, a well-known and long-term local media
magnate. Her role would be ensuring 'the word' is
circulated through the all-powerful Fairfax group both
locally and nationally. Coupled with her community spirit
and strong networking alliances, she would be a valuable
part of any team''.
